The doctors in our urgent care clinic are all skilled and experienced in dealing with all types of urgent medical care, "everything and anything" that comes in through the door.
Aqualyx is an injectable deoxycholate solution used to reduce small, stubborn fat pockets for targeted body contouring.
It disrupts fat cell membranes (adipocytolysis); the body clears the released lipids via normal metabolic pathways. It is not a weight-loss treatment and is not FDA-approved in the United States.
Treatment areas
- Under-chin (submental)
- Jowls
- Upper arms
- Abdomen/flanks
- Hips
- Inner/outer thighs
- Knees
- Ankles
- May be considered for selected male chest (pseudo-gynecomastia) when appropriate.
Who it’s for
Adults at or near a stable weight with well-defined, small to moderate fat deposits and good skin elasticity.
Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active skin infection at the site, relevant allergies, or significant liver/kidney disease. A full medical history is required.
How many sessions
Typical course: 2–6 sessions per area, spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Some areas may require up to ~8 sessions.
What to expect on the day
The area is cleansed. Local anaesthetic is usually used. Multiple small injections are placed into the subcutaneous fat. Treatment time is ~30–60 minutes depending on area size.
Downtime & results
Common, temporary effects: swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness/itching, and occasional firmness or nodules; these usually settle within days.
Initial changes often appear from ~4 weeks; full results typically 8–12 weeks after the final session.
Destroyed fat cells are not expected to return; maintaining a stable weight helps preserve outcomes.
Aftercare
- Avoid touching or massaging the area for 48 hours.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, heat exposure (saunas, hot baths), and alcohol for 48–72 hours.
- Sleep with the head elevated after submental treatment.
- Stay well hydrated; use intermittent ice packs if advised.
Risks & safety
Most side effects are mild and self-limited. Rare complications include infection, nerve irritation, or skin necrosis. Treatment should be performed by trained clinicians using genuine product and correct technique.
Regulatory note
Aqualyx is used in many countries but is not FDA-approved in the US. Ensure treatment is provided in a regulated medical setting by qualified professionals.
